Reflective Blog Post

With doing this research I learned a lot about how freshmen coming into high school can maintain a healthy self-image. It is important that young teens learn this information to avoid trying to change themselves into someone they aren´t . With trying to change themselves they can be put in a situation they never intended to be in, the situation may even be harmful to the teen. In the process of changing themselves their parents may not agree with the change, so that means with the change comes an unstable relationship that the teens have to come home to everyday.

I have experienced a time where my mother had made it difficult for me to want to come home. I felt like I could be myself at school and when it came time to go home I dreaded it. No child should hate going home. Home should be somewhere that they are suppose to feel safe and secure. At this time of change they may not even see that they are changing so drastically and may take the constructive criticism as their family turning “against” them, at this point they turn to their friends who they think are there over their family. When they start to see their friends as more of a safe zone, they will value what their friends say and think way more than their own family.

It is important for teens to maintain a healthy image going into high school so they don’t create unwanted obstacles while trying to go through the tough stage in life already. With maintaining a healthy self-image it avoids creating unstable relationships, unwanted depression, unwanted trouble, etc. Wanting to change drastically  can be avoided by knowing right from wrong, avoiding peer pressure, knowing who you’re meant to be in life, and being positive in situations
